ABOUT US

Josette Green, Founder and Historian of the St. Petersburg (FL) Black History Bike Tour.
Have you ever had an energy so powerful come bursting through you that you couldn’t not act on it? That was the energy behind the creation of the St. Petersburg (FL) Black History Bike Tour. Historian Josette Green knew she had to do it when she saw firsthand the impact of teaching this history as a docent at a local museum’s civil rights exhibit in 2020.
The bike tour is a 4-hour, FREE, immersive experience partnered with Chief’s Creole Cafe. Led by Josette, it takes participants to the actual locations where history began for St. Petersburg’s African American residents. The history reveals an understanding of the systemic racism in our city today.
The tour is followed by lunch at Chief’s Creole Cafe and a talk by Mr. Elihu Brayboy (Mr. B) sharing his lived experiences. Participants say it is “eye-opening” and “life-changing.”
The free public tour is available on limited dates September to May for individuals and nonprofit groups. For-profit companies and private personal groups can book separate tours for a fee by contacting Josette directly.
Each tour begins at 9:00 a.m. at Chief’s Creole Cafe at 901 22nd St. S. in St. Petersburg, FL. The tour covers a 5-mile loop riding vigorously on level land. A helmet is required.
See the Upcoming Tours section below for dates and links to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you!
