About the event
Tour guide Josette moved into the historically Black neighborhood of Campbell Park in August 2019 and as a historian, was curious about various factions of her new neighborhood. She turned her research and study to Campbell Park, knowing that the park itself had a rich history as the city’s first “Negro park.” The research turned up many fascinating, untold stories that deserved and needed to be heard. They aid in understanding the robust park of today and provide insights into the marginalization of the Black community. Josette learned from the biking tour that biking is not for everyone and yet so many people want to know the local Black history. Campbell Park is perfect for walking, so The Hidden, Historic Campbell Park walking tour was born.
